I saw this Cruelty Free Tag on missteaandlipstick’s Instagram and thought it would be fun to do it too. Consider yourself tagged!
What was your first impression of cruelty free makeup?
When I started buying makeup and I found out there was such a thing as cruelty free makeup I knew that was the only kind of makeup I wanted to buy.
What is your opinion on parent companies?
I personally don’t think it’s fair that great cruelty free companies get bought by non cruelty free parent companies because when purchasing an item from a brand like that, the money ultimately goes to the non cruelty free parent company. At the same time I think it still important to show support for cruelty free companies that are owned my non cruelty free parent companies because that particular brand is still staying true to its cruelty free stance. I personally like to shop for products from a brand that is unowned like Hourglass but it’s ok to buying a couple of things from an owned brand like Tarte since they are still cruelty free.
What was the turning point in you going cruelty free?
I have always purchased cruelty free makeup but since the beginning of the year I have been trying to buy products from unowned cruelty free brands. I stumbled upon the parent company dilemma while I was trying to find products that were better for you and contained less chemicals.
What would you say to someone considering going cruelty free?
Do it! There are many amazing, great quality cruelty free brands to choose from!
What are your best cruelty free dupes?
I don’t really have any dupes since many cruelty free products are amazingly high quality.
What items have you not found a cruelty free dupe for yet?
I’ve found cruelty free products for all my makeup products.
What’s your favorite cruelty free brand? Drugstore & high end?
I don’t shop for makeup much at the drugstore but I would have to say NYX since I love their Soft Matte Lip Creams! It’s hard to pick what my favorite high end cruelty free brand is, I was using Hourglass for a while and I really like their products and they even have a vegan product list on their site! Lately I have really been loving Milk Makeup as well.
Which brands and/or items do you most wish were cruelty free?
I really wish all brands were cruelty free! It would be great if big companies like MAC could be cruelty free.
What advice do you have for the temptation to buy non cruelty free products?
My advice would be unsubscribe from their mailing list and stop falling their social media pages. When I am personally tempted I thinking about someone forcibly applying makeup to my dog and I remember how awful animal testing is.
What do you do with your non cruelty free products? Declutter? Use up?
I have been revamping my makeup collection by returning non cruelty free products. If the products are old I’ll just throw them out. I have also been giving away some of my unused products and donating them to donation centers that will take makeup.
Do you think animal testing will end one day?
I think it will. There is a high demand for cruelty free products and companies have definitely taken notice. Just like how companies reformulate their products to take out ingredients like parabens, companies are also trying to make an effort to be cruelty free.
