I have been excitedly looking for a new highlighter and I thought I would finally give Hourglass a try. Hourglass has the cult favorite Ambient Lighting Powders that some people swear by but I thought I would try their Ambient Strobe Lighting Powders. I chose the color Euphoric Strobe Light because it is one of their vegan options! Since these are called “strobe lighting” powders you would probably think that these highlighters would give you an intense and reflective glow perfect for stobing but these highlighters are a bit more tame. I swatched a couple of these powders at Sephora and I noticed that this line of powders seems to be powdery and contain pieces of glitter. I applied Euphoric at the store with a brush and it was hard to tell it was on and you really had to catch the right light to see it. I decided I would give it a try anyone and I bought the Ambient Strobe Light Sculptor that was made to be used with these powders to get the best possible application.
I’m glad I picked up the Ambient Strobe Light Sculptor sponge because it truly gave the best application of this product. The sponge is dense and has a flat angled side and a velvety flocked side on the bottom. You can use both the powder and sponge dry or wet for a more intense application. The powder applies visibly powdery and can have noticeable pieces of glitter. If you apply the powder wet it doesn’t apply powdery and is a little more intense. The flocked side is supposed to be used to blend out the product but I notice it takes a lot of the product off so use a very light hand. The flocked side really doesn’t work too well so I really didn’t find myself using it. If you use a brush to apply this powder but it’s not as intense and it is definitely less glittery. The nice thing about this powder is that when you use it wet it dries down without leave that hard film that will happen to most powders when used wet. Overall this highlighter can be a little difficult to see because it is powdery with not a lot of pigment so you might be tempted to apply more but it just puts more glitter on your face.
Overall I would not recommend this product. It’s too powdery and glittery making it difficult to apply. If you decide to try one of these powders, I would suggest getting the Ambient Strobe Light Sculptor sponge with it for the best application.
